A newsletter will be sent out to all Asorock email subscribers in the end of every month spotlighting which organization the Asorock family will be making a donation to for the month and their link if you wish to make a personal donation yourself.

UNICEF EDUCATION
Its only right that the first organization we donate to and spotlight in our monthly social responsibility program would be one that's super close to our business mission which is to build free libraries across Africa.
Unicef education focuses on west and central africa because millions of children in West and Central Africa are still denied an education.
According to them, the region accounts for one-third of the global total of primary school age children and one-fifth of lower secondary age children who are out of school.

With our monthly social responsibility program, we aim to spotlight charity organizations that are close to our business mission which is to build free libraries across africa. And, what is a library without books? Books for Africa fulfills that.
A simple name for an organization with a simple mission: To end the book famine in Africa. They collect, sort, ship, and distribute books to African students of all ages. With our help, they will be able to create a culture of literacy and provide the tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa.
Books For Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 48 million books to all 55 countries on the African continent since 1988. Last year alone, Books For Africa shipped 3.3 million books, and 155 computers and e-readers containing over 400,000 digital books, to 29 African countries.
More than $2.7 million was raised last year to ship these books to the students of Africa.
The need for high quality books in African libraries and classrooms is more pressing than ever, and your gift allows us to continue working towards ending the book famine in Africa. Thank you again for your support!

For the month of february, we went with an organization that not only focuses on africa but focuses on all children on earth who are impoverished.

MARCH 2021
As march is international women's day, we went with an organization that focuses on empowering women/girls with resources to education. And CAMFED is an organization that does just that and believes that every child is entitled to a quality education in a safe environment and a life as an independent adult.
CAMFED stands for: The Campaign for Female Education
About CAMFED - "We are a pan-African movement revolutionizing how girls’ education is delivered. Through a gold-standard system of accountability to the young people and communities we serve, we have created a model that radically improves girls’ prospects of becoming independent, influential women. Our impact increases exponentially through the Association of young women educated with CAMFED’s support. Together, we multiply the number of girls in school and accelerate their path to livelihoods and leadership."
In sub-Saharan Africa, 32.6 million* girls of primary and lower secondary school age are out of school. This number rises to 52 million when taking into account girls of upper secondary school age.
With access to education women can do amazing things: launch businesses, become health workers, run schools, and lead governments, making the world a better place for everyone.

For the month of April, we went with an organization that is internationally renowned and recognized by many.
ABOUT MSF: one of the most successful medical charities in the world. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, MSF is committed to worldwide service and political neutrality, delivering emergency medical aid to anyone in need.
However, MSF started in Africa, and currently, a large portion of their work still takes place there.
MSF's work earned has earned it numerous awards including the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, as well as the Nobel Peace Prize (1999)

Nothing-But-Nets (NBT) is our charity organization for the month of may because every two minutes, somewhere in the world, a child dies from malaria.
NBT raises funds to send lifesaving bed nets and other malaria preventions & treatments to families in need. Additionally, they work with UN partners like UNICEF and UNHCR to protect refugees and families who are most vulnerable to malaria.
ABOUT NBT:
" Nothing But Nets is a global grassroots campaign to raise awareness, funds, and voices to fight malaria. In 2006, sports columnist Rick Reilly wrote a column in Sports Illustrated challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 to send insecticide-treated bed nets to protect families from malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
Since then, with the help of our partners and supporters, we have raised over $70 million to help deliver 13 million bed nets to families in need, along with other crucial malaria interventions like diagnostics, treatment, and training of healthcare workers. "

The American red cross is one of the most recorgnized charity organizations in the world. Having grown up in africa i remember always seeing their trucks and workers around.

For the month of july we went with an organization that is a little more modern and gives the donation directly to those in extreme need.
Since 2009, they have delivered $400M+ in cash directly into the hands of over 900,000 families living in poverty. They currently have operations in Morocco, Malawi, Kenya, Rwanda, Liberia, Togo, DRC, and the United States.

SOS Childrens villages is our charity organization for the month of august because they are dedicated to the care of orphaned and abandoned children worldwide.

Following the devastation of World War II, Hermann Gmeiner, a child welfare worker, saw the suffering of children who were orphaned by the war. He founded SOS Children’s Villages and raised money to build the first village in Imst, Austria, in 1949, as a place where children could grow up in a stable, family-like setting with a supportive community.
More than 70 years later, SOS Children’s Villages now works in 136 countries, operates more than 540 villages and has impacted an estimated 13 million people

We all know how difficult it is concentrating on a book with an empty stomach, thus why our charity organization for the month of september is "Action Against Hunger", which is an organization focusing on providing food for the less privileged children in africa and saving lifes in the process.
The work they do is important because research shows that about 811 million people go to bed hungry every night, and one in three children in low- and middle-income countries suffers from chronic malnutrition. Nearly half of all child deaths worldwide are from causes related to undernutrition

Hey Asorockers :) , for the month of october, we went with a charity organization that tackles the malaria problem in africa which is a huge issue because malaria kills about 400,000 people every year and more than 200 million fall ill. Before bed nets were made available, it was three or more times that.
Nets are a proven intervention - a more effective a way of saving lives than any other. There is still a long way to go and every death from malaria is preventable and our charity organization for the month does just that by providing nets.
ABOUT AGAINST MALARIA:
According to their site, "We protect people from malaria. We fund nets and ensure they are distributed and used. We show you where the nets go. We monitor and report their use and impact."
How They do it
"100% of public donations buys long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs). An LLIN costs US$2.00. We work with distribution partners to distribute nets and ensure use. We conduct net use surveys and track monthly malaria data."

While there has been huge progress in bringing global poverty levels down, sub-Saharan Africa has benefited the least. Today, almost half of the world’s extreme poor live in sub-Saharan Africa. The vast majority work in agriculture.
Our charity organization for the month "Farm Africa", reduces poverty in eastern Africa by helping farmers grow more, sell more and sell for more.

Since the pandemic first hit, at least one third of the world’s schoolchildren have not been able to access any form of learning. close to a billion students are still affected by school closures, and 24 million of the most marginalized children, of which almost half are girls, are at risk of never returning to a classroom.
To start off the new year, we made a donation to Build Africa because they are working to get as many children in Africa safely back to school as possible and ensure that they are not feeling the impacts of this crisis for years to come.
With our help (and yours), they can provide more children with learning materials, school uniforms and dignity kits to ensure they can return to the classroom, provide remote-based learning methods for those who have not been able to return and provide their families with food, cash grants and livelihood support to help them recover from the economic effects of the crisis and afford the costs of sending their children back to school.
